If he'd come here and said "I didn't do anything wrong, but Anet won't fix it, this is so unfair! Help me!" I'd be inclined to agree with you that he was complaining. However, that's not how it happened. Telling him to stop bitching here because we can't do anything about it really shouldn't have even been brought up in the first place. First, he wasn't bitching, he explained what happened to him and followed it with "be sure to take care of your computers" and second, he wasn't asking anybody here to help him anyway. Quote:
You're speculating for the sake of being a complete ass. You don't know what this person's true intentions were, none of us do. However, sitting here and accusing them of having that as an ulterior motive is, frankly, asinine. You can sit here all day and accuse him of using a warning as a thinly veiled attempt at getting his account back, but that doesn't mean you're correct. Either way it doesn't matter what his true intentions are, as he wasn't actually complaining, and he wasn't asking for help. You could just take it for what was written instead of sitting here looking for a deeper meaning and flaming him for no reason other than you feel like fighting. Seriously, people. Get over yourselves. Go back and read his post again if you have to. Whether the adware he pointed out was the cause for the ban or not is not the point. Anet might have made a mistake, Anet might not have made a mistake. He explained what happened to him, he says he knows he's not getting his account back, that's not why he's here and he never once asked for anybody to help him. He told people to be sure to keep their computers clean because bad things can happen. Is this common knowledge? Yes. But sometimes it's nice to have reminders. Take it for what it was. |

3rd party program is a very generic term. Anything installed by adware, malware, etc. would not be any sort of program that would affect GW. You sir, were botting.

I feel your pain. I once had a trojan that made my life a living hell. Took me a long while to get rid of it.

I can see where you're coming from on this Rand, but I've been playing online games since they began, and I've never had account security issues. After all that time, I really doubt it was just plain good luck, because I've heard countless other people being hacked in just about every game they play.
Limewire, first of all, isn't a very nice program, right now as we speak I'm infected because of it, even though i got rid of it a long time ago. It corrupts any virus scanner I put on here, and freeezes my pc whenever I run disk cleanup. I still haven't had account issues. The only advice I can offer is watch what you download, and delete whatever you don't use. Old games tend to carry viruses, especially if you've ever downloaded anything like maphack for diablo II or any other kind of bots or third party program. They often carry with them keyloggers that steal EVERY password you enter, not just for that one game. I don't know, you make it sound quite a bit like you're a helpless victim, but nothing like this has ever happened to me. All I can say is, be more careful and I'm sorry about your money loss. At least you didn't take a $10,000 loan to help open a business only to have an uninsured fire, right? |

OMG WOOOOOOW
you people never heard of spyware stealing your passwords? MAYBE someone DID see him botting...maybe thats cause someone stole his password and used his account for it? cheeses whats up with all the prejudism? not all people who get banned actually did something to deserve it alright? i had a friend who just got a temp ban for exessive spamming but they removed the ban cause they made a mistake. edit: look at the screenshot the guy obsiously has a f-load of spyware whos to say this aint possible? So anyone who gets their account banned in error should not take up the "it was spyware" stane and instead stick with the most likely "I was just farming, not botting". Glad you got it back anyway, this thread shows how many people jump at the chance to insult people. |

Oh man, after reading your post I had to re-read thelegendozelda's posts because it is so damn funny to see how immature and stubborn people can be.
Good job Zelda, keep up the good work. And congrats on getting your account back. |

Congrats on getting your account back, Rand.
This thread surves, in my opinion, a very good purpose, as it gets people aware that we can very easily get banned if we're not careful and scan our computers regularly. |

Get your firewall and virus programs sorted, don't use internet explorerer, don't go on dodgy sites, run spybot search & destroy every so often.
